Creating your optimal profile as an art & design freelance writer

When you're accepted as a writer for Scripted, you'll set up your profile. This is the first thing potential clients will see when considering you for art and design freelance writing jobs, so your profile must reflect your professionalism, authority, and writing skills. A picture is required, and a well-lit photo cropped around your smiling face generally is a good choice for creating strong first impressions.

The next step is writing your bio, which should showcase your professional achievements and industry authority so the client feels confident in selecting you to take on their art and design freelance writing jobs. You'll also be able to include writing samples so you can showcase your work in the art and design industries. If you are still building your portfolio, you can always write pieces on spec and post them to your LinkedIn or personal blog. Later down the line, you can update your samples as more of your art freelance writing jobs are published.

How To Create Long-term Relationships with Clients on Scripted

Even though working for Scripted happens 100% online, there are still opportunities to build relationships with Scripted clients so that your name can be at the top of the list to be considered for future art and design freelance writing jobs.

Once you've been selected for a freelance writing job, spend some time with the creative brief to reconnect with the job objective (you will have hopefully spent some time looking at the creative brief before it was in your job queue) and determine whether you have questions. Then you can message the client to give a quick hello and request clarification just as a way to build rapport.

When you deliver great writing that adheres to the guidelines found in the creative brief, the chances of the client inviting you to work on future art and design freelance writing jobs increase, along with your earnings as a writer!

The Benefit of SmartMatch for Art & Design Freelance Writers on Scripted

With the SmartMatch feature on Scripted, you'll have access to art and design freelance writing jobs, as well as jobs in other industries, that you can start right away and skip the proposal process. These are first-come, first-served jobs so if you can claim them before anyone else, you'll be able to start immediately without having to compete against other writers' pitches.

How To Create Pitches to Win Jobs

For the times that you do need to submit a pitch for art and design freelance writing jobs on Scripted, there are a few best practices to follow to increase your chances of getting the job. Start with a quick and clear statement of how you would deliver on the client's objectives as illustrated in the content brief. After that, share what makes you an authority and why you're the best match for the job. From there, provide links to writing samples that support you as an authority. If you're just beginning your freelance writing career, it's worth considering taking a lower pay until your portfolio is stronger just to get your foot in the door.

If you're awarded the job, you can start writing right away and continue to pitch for other art and design freelance writing jobs on Scripted!

Set Prices Your Knowledge and Experience Deserve

When you pitch an idea on Scripted, you get to set a price that you believe is fair to the client and your experience. Clients can even send you an additional tip to reward you for excellent work.

Every project has a minimum price that ensures writers get paid a fair amount. You always control how much you charge, but the minimum prevents writers from drastically undercutting each other for jobs.

Work as Much or as Little as You Want

Some writers at Scripted use the platform to earn a little extra money. Others rely on it as their main source of income.

You can use Scripted to write as much or as little as you want. As a freelance writer, you control your schedule.

Quick Payments for Accepted Projects

Scripted partners with Stripe to get money in your bank account quickly. You can usually expect payments to reach your account within three to five days after your client accepts the project, depending on your Writer Tier.

Manage All of Your Clients From One Dashboard

As a freelance writer, staying organized can be a big challenge. As a Scripted writer you can manage all your customers, jobs, and pitches in one dashboard so you know what to prioritize and what stage every job is in. Each job is placed in one of these four stages:

  • Proposals – pitches that clients are still considering.
  • Writing – assignments with upcoming deadlines.
  • Editing – projects in the editing stage before they get sent to clients.
  • Ready for Review – jobs now in clients' hands ready for acceptance.

You can also use the Scripted dashboard to manage your Writer Portfolio, writing samples, payments, and job invitations.
