New Mexico Attractions

Known as The Land of Enchantment, New Mexico is home to some of the most beautiful scenery in the Southwest, with its sweeping mesas and wind swept deserts. Full of art and culture indigenous to the region, there are a number of cities you will want to see. Here are a few important ones. Albuquerque is one of the major ones with significant museums and art galleries. In the Old Town are the old Spanish and Indian cultures, seen in old churches, shops, adobe architecture and winding walkways. This area is particularly beautiful during the holiday season when it is adorned with many small candles and many seasonal festivities take place. There is also ample opportunity for hiking, biking and golf here. Also located in Albuquerque is the Atomic Museum which has a time line of the development in Los Alamos of the atomic bomb used to end WWII. And there is also a dramatic aerial tram over the city, the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway, offering a spectacular view of this beautiful city. Sante Fe is also a city you won't want to miss. Exquisite in natural beauty, it has a charming old area of shops and restaurants and offers an abundance of art galleries and museums .Of particular interest here is the museum of the Palace of the Governors. Taos is also a particularly beautiful smaller city, with its spectacular mountains and the Rio Grande River. It is a rolling mesa, with a particular beauty all its own and a blend of Spanish, Native American and Anglo cultures. Of keen interest here is the Taos Pueblo where the Tiwa Native Americans have practiced their traditions for centuries. Taos is home to many artists and you will sense its unique beauty and enjoy the many artistic works. This is also a popular snow ski destination, for the advanced skier in the mountains. A trip to New Mexico would not be complete without visiting the spectacular Carlsbad Cavern National Park. This is a must see. This site contains 113 caves and has some of the largest caves in North America! Stalagmites and stalactites abound and this vast space is best seen by sections. There will be plenty of guides and information there to help you choose your tours. Other cities to see in New Mexico are Ruidoso, Roswell and Los Alamos. There are no professional sports teams in New Mexico but you'll be too busy with outdoor sports of all kinds all year round, and with enjoying this rich and enchanting culture.
