Acupuncture to Improve Fertility

Raising a family is one of the most rewarding life events that a couple can experience. Unfortunately, more and more couples are facing infertility, making having a baby nearly impossible. Many couples turn to fertility clinics for treatment but often discover that conventional fertility treatments alone aren't always enough. Natural therapies like acupuncture can work wonders for boosting fertility, enabling once infertile couples to have the children that they desire. The Acupuncture Clinic of Michigan offers new hope for women suffering from infertility.

With the main office located on Maple Rd. in Troy, and a new office located in Berkeley on Coolidge Highway, The Acupuncture Clinic of Michigan is run by Dr. Shuyun Xu. Dr. Xu has dedicated her life to assisting infertile couples with achieving their dream of becoming parents. She performs acupuncture treatment on both males and females, depending on the cause of the infertility, although she focuses on women. She offers over 20 years of expertise in acupuncture and uses her proven techniques to assist women of all ages with getting to the root cause of their infertility. Every woman is different and has different reasons for her infertility. Dr. Xu works with women of all ages, even those well into their 40s, and her techniques work wonders for regulating their menstrual cycles, balancing their hormones, and both inducing and supporting ovulation.

While every woman would prefer a natural conception, unfortunately this isn't always possible. Many couples facing this issue opt for Invitro Fertilization (IVF), which Dr. Xu also assists women with preparing their bodies for. Studies show that acupuncture increases the likelihood of success when several sessions are completed prior to IVF. Acupuncture improves the odds of a successful embryo transfer via IVF in several ways. First, acupuncture stimulates the flow of blood to the reproductive organs. Adequate blood flow is essential for pregnancy, especially when it comes to properly thickening the lining of the uterus. An endometrial lining that is at least 8mm thick is necessary for successful implantation. Another way acupuncture improves the chances of pregnancy is by relaxing the entire body, including the uterus. This also aids implantation, dramatically increasing the odds of pregnancy.

While many women believe that having needles inserted in various parts of their body is unnerving, there is little pain experienced from the thin needles. In fact, the experience is rather relaxing. After Dr. Xu strategically places the needles throughout the body, the woman relaxes alone for approximately a half hour while listening to meditation music in a darkened room. Enjoying a short nap during an acupuncture session isn't uncommon and is, in fact, encouraged. During acupuncture sessions for infertility, Dr. Xu focuses on the entire body and not just the reproductive organs. She explains that if other systems in the body are not functioning properly, fertility could be negatively impacted. This is why treating the entire body simultaneously is most effective.

Dr. Xu advises all her women that while most women conceive after approximately 10 acupuncture sessions, every woman is different. Some women successfully conceive and sustain a healthy pregnancy after only a few sessions, while others require greater than 10 sessions before success is achieved. In some cases, acupuncture alone doesn't work as quickly as couples would like. In such cases involving women wishing to conceive naturally, Dr. Xu can recommend herbal concoctions and teas that can support the entire menstrual cycle. These remedies are used in conjunction with acupuncture, which can significantly increase the chances of success.

Once a woman is pregnant, the continued use of acupuncture can help a woman sustain her pregnancy until she gives birth. Many women suffer from low progesterone levels in pregnancy, which can lead to miscarriage. Acupuncture can help to regulate this important hormone, although if it is confirmed by a medical doctor that a woman's progesterone levels are low, Dr. Xu recommends that the woman obtain a prescription from her physician. Dr. Xu's herbal treatments can also help normalize progesterone levels if a woman chooses not to take prescription medications. In addition to acupuncture, Dr. Xu offers massage treatments at her clinic that can promote relaxation. Stress is a common cause of low progesterone levels in women, as hormones that are produced during times of high stress can deplete progesterone levels. Massage and other relaxation techniques can keep stress hormones low, therefore enabling progesterone to remain within a normal range.
