5 Quick Tips for Investments in 2025

Smart investors know to diversify their interests and do their research to weather any storms during economic turmoil. Stable markets tend to favor certain investment vehicles like dividend-paying stocks, government bonds, high-quality corporate bonds, and real estate investment trusts (REITs). However, instability can lead investors to put more into savings accounts, certificates of deposit, precious metals, utilities, and even cryptocurrencies.

What are the best investments for 2025? Read our five quick tips to learn more.

1. Always Stay the Course

Investors love stocks. And some stock markets have risen sharply since the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) doubled its value in less than five years from early 2020 to early 2025. The S&P 500 has tripled its value over the same timeframe with an annual return of nearly 16 percent.

Even in times of economic uncertainty, stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) rebound in a few years if they follow historical patterns. Yes, people can shift investments to something more lucrative. But a large piece of the pie should come from stocks and mutual funds.

2. Bitcoin ETFs

Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies usually have a riskier up-and-down curve compared to stocks. However, Bitcoin ETFs continue to be the most popular crypto assets out there. Early in 2025, Bitcoin topped $100,000 for the first time in its history after spending much of 2024 around the $60,000 mark. Bitcoin ETFs are a lot like certificates of deposit only with more risk because investors may need to hold on to Bitcoin investment for a while before they see an appreciable gain.

3. Land

As the population of certain areas grow, so does the need for developed land. Undeveloped land is generally cheaper per acre compared to land with a building on it. There are a few ways to invest in land, and a majority of them have nothing to do with taking out a mortgage or owning a deed to thousands of acres.

  • Real estate investment trusts (REITs) are like mutual funds in that a company owns and manages a range of diverse income-generating properties like office buildings, shopping centers, apartments, and hotels. REITs could also have investments from mortgage-backed securities.
  • Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and exchange-traded notes (ETNs) offer ways to buy these publicly traded securities. They usually focus on one particular sector, like timber, minerals, or farmland.
  • Buying land outright can be worthwhile if someone wants to put a lot of effort into it. Developers may purchase large tracts of land and then build on them later if they are near the outskirts of a city.

4. Precious Metals

Gold is the darling of precious metals. Its per-ounce price is nearly triple that of platinum and palladium in early 2025, with gold hovering near $3,000 for 1 ounce. Investing in precious metals is a lot like land. Investors can purchase them on exchanges or buy the gold outright.

5. High-Yield Savings Accounts

After the Federal Reserve eased interest rates in 2024, the interest rates banks offered on savings accounts began to rise. Some of the top high-yield savings accounts had an APY of 4.75% or a bit higher as of February 2025.

The best part about high-yield savings accounts is that money is insured by the federal government for up to $250,000 if the bank or credit union fails. Investors should look for financial institutions backed by the FDIC or NCUA.
