How can you apply to be a Scripted writer? We go through the entire application process here.
Applying to write with Scripted is the first step toward claiming freelance writing jobs on our platform. The application process has recently been changed to more closely reflect the Scripted experience. Read below for information on how to become a Scripted writer.
Signing Up As A Scripted Writer
The first step to becoming a Scripted writer is opening an account. To do so, visit scripted.com and hover over the “Get Started” button in the top-right corner. From there, select “Writer” from the drop-down menu.
Clicking that link will direct you to our writer sign-up page. You’ll need to fill out specific information, which will automatically populate into your future writer profile. This includes your name, email address, and a password. You’ll also need to confirm that you are over 18 years of age before you register.
Click “Create Account” to register as a writer. Please note that registering with Scripted requires agreeing to the terms outlined in our Writer Services Agreement. Once you click “Create Account,” you’ll be asked to check your email and confirm your account. After this is done, you’re ready to start the application process!
Terms of Service & English Proficiency Test
From there, you’ll be asked to take an English proficiency test.
You’ll have two opportunities to pass the Scripted English proficiency test and thirty minutes to complete the test. The English proficiency test includes questions on spelling, word relationships, determiners, and commonly mixed-up words.
Please note: switching tabs or pages while taking the English proficiency test will result in a failed score. To minimize the chances of this, please complete the English proficiency test without clicking out of the window or page.
Completing the Scripted Writer Application
Once you’ve passed the English proficiency test, you’re ready to complete the Scripted writer application!
Our application is composed of two parts: a short blog post and a short clothing description. You’ll have 40 minutes to complete each of these sections.
Blog Post Sample
Once you’ve read the instructions for the application, you’ll be taken to a page that allows you to choose between three topics for your blog post. For this section of the application, you’ll be asked to craft a short blog post (200-300 words) on the topic that you chose. Choose wisely, as you will not be able to go back and change your topic selection once you’ve made your choice.
Choose your topic and click “Start Writing” to begin your application.
Once you’ve chosen your topic, you’ll click “Start Writing,” which will take you to our writing interface and start the 40-minute timer. You’ll be given detailed instructions on what you’ll need to include in this blog post, what format the post will be in, and any supplemental materials you’ll need to include. You’ll be able to view the guidelines and access the supplemental materials during the entirety of your application.
Please note: if you close the tab, window, or browser, your timer will not stop. Please be sure that you have an adequate amount of time to complete your application before you click “Start Writing.”
Once you’ve finished your blog post, click the “Submit” button to submit this portion of your application. After you’ve verified that you’re ready to submit your piece, you’ll be directed to the next stage of the application.
Clothing Description Application
For this section of the application, you’ll be asked to create a short clothing description (100-200 words) for a clothing company. Before starting the clothing description, you’ll receive instructions and information that will help you complete this section of the application.
The article of clothing that you’ll describe will be randomly selected for you once you’ve clicked the “Start Writing” button. A new 40-minute countdown will start, and you’ll need to complete your clothing description before the time runs out.
Once you’ve completed your clothing description, click the “Submit” button to submit your application. You’ll then be taken to a confirmation page.
We will evaluate your application based on the following criteria:
- Overall writing quality: Sentences must be well-written and free of errors.
- Guideline adherence: Guidelines on tone, keywords, point of view, and all other special instructions must be followed.
- Inclusion of supplemental materials: Research material provided should be referenced throughout the post.
- Use of clear, engaging language: Writing should be free of repetitive phrases and concepts.
Once your application is approved, you will have access to the Scripted platform, your writer profile and all of our customers’ available work.
